This position is the recognized resource responsible for developing radio programming files for distribution and installation into Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) radios for the State of Michigan. The role includes identifying existing and requesting new Radio IDs, Talkgroups, and encryption for use in building templates installed into MPSCS radios.

Responsibilities

Build radio programming templates for all MPSCS radios in the Metro Region (44,401 radios). Tasks include: identifying programming needs, contacting users to verify changes, developing prototype templates for field‑testing, requesting radio and Talkgroup IDs, building templates, performing quality checks to remove errors, archiving for distribution, and coordinating reprogramming of field units.

Use EAM, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel to compile, record, and maintain database entries for MPSCS. Duties include entering equipment information, determining billing levels, inputting data into associated databases, and performing quality checks for accuracy.

Program MPSCS radios with appropriate templates and encryption codes; provide support to field staff as needed.

Support other technical areas of MPSCS, such as assisting NCC with programming IDs and Talkgroups, investigating radio operation issues, evaluating new radios for compliance with technical and performance standards, testing new programming software, and providing field support for new software.

Perform other duties as assigned, including responding to internal and external emails, recording hours and reports, completing routine paperwork, maintaining a clean work area, and supporting MPSCS as required.

Required Qualifications

At least 3 years of experience as a Radio/Communications Technician.

At least 2 years of experience with P25 Radio Programming (Motorola & Kenwood).

Proficiency in using computer skills to accurately enter data into radio programming files and asset management software.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and direction.

Desired Qualifications

Military or public safety radio communications experience (not network).

Two‑way radio experience.

Previous P25 encryption experience (KMF/AES).

Certifications & Licenses

FCC General Radio Telephone License, APCO Certificate, or approved equivalent.
