Job Overview
This position is the recognized resource responsible for the development of radio programming files for distribution and installation. The role identifies existing and requests new Radio IDs, Talkgroups, and Encryption to develop and build templates installed into radios.
Key Responsibilities
Duty 1: Radio Programming Templates
Identify radio programming needs through written requests, user contracts, or MPSCS-initiated changes.
Contact users to define and verify requested changes.
Develop prototype templates for field testing.
Request radio IDs and Talkgroup IDs for templates.
Build radio templates for all Metro Region radios (44,401 units).
Perform quality checks of templates for accuracy and error removal.
Build archives as required for distribution to field units.
Coordinate reprogramming of all appropriate field units.
Duty 2: Database Management
Compile, record, and enter data into EAM, Microsoft Access, and Excel.
Maintain equipment information in EAM and associated databases.
Determine billing levels appropriate for each template.
Perform quality checks of EAM and databases for accuracy.
Duty 3: Radio Programming
Program radios with appropriate templates and encryption codes.
Support field staff as required for programming.
Duty 4: Technical Support
Support NCC programming of IDs and Talkgroups.
Investigate radio operation issues on the system.
Evaluate new radios for compliance with technical and performance standards.
Test new programming software and provide field support.
Respond to requests for information regarding templates and records.
Duty 5: Miscellaneous
Respond to internal and external emails.
Record hours and activity reports.
Complete routine paperwork and records.
Maintain general housekeeping of the work area.
Qualifications
Three years experience as a Radio/Communications Technician.
Two years experience with P25 Radio Programming (Motorola & Kenwood).
Desired Experience
Military/Public Safety/Radio Communications experience.
Two-way radio experience.
Previous P25 encryption experience/KMF (AES).
Certificates and Licenses
FCC General Radio Telephone License, APCO Certificate, or equivalent.
May involve use of personal vehicle.
