About Us
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol’s primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state’s traffic laws, troopers guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re‑route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and stand ready for any act of terrorism. State Troopers protect North Carolina’s motoring public.
Description of Work
This position monitors multiple large‑scale networks, including VIPER (Voice Interoperability Plan for Emergency Responders), CJIN/DCI, OFM, and the NCSHP Internal Network. The role performs first‑level troubleshooting and monitors for any network or site issues that may arise. Responsibilities include notifying users, technicians, and vendors when a problem occurs and working with Network Technicians to resolve it. The employee supports the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Continuity of Operations efforts, network operations and routing, and demonstrates strong user operations and customer service skills. DCI Certification is required, with recertification every two years. Shift work is required to provide 24/7/365 coverage.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of network monitoring systems and/or communication networks
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of network diagnostic software tools
Management Preferences
Knowledge of radio communications equipment
Two years’ experience working in a Network Operations Center

Minimum Education and Experience
High School or GED diploma and one year of IT experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
