Department Overview
SOMeCA (SOAR/Student Media/CAD) is a unit of Student Development and Engagement that supports campus-wide student organizations through mentorship, leadership training, organizational development, and project management services.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of SOMeCA, the Director of the Cultural Arts and Diversity Resource Center (CAD) manages the strategic planning, development, and overall administration of CAD, including budget, personnel, policies, and student leadership. The director collaborates with the SOMeCA leadership team and external partners to advance inclusive campus culture and interdisciplinary arts education.

Appointment Information
Budgeted Salary:

$83,000 – $87,710 annually. Salary is commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience.

Job Duties
30% Program Development and Administration

Provide leadership for managing and developing CAD, an innovative theater program that promotes inclusive campus community, intercultural learning, and personal development for diverse students.

Maintain current knowledge of local and national performing‑arts trends to inform center development.

Collaborate with CAD’s Board of Directors and student leaders to assess and develop theater productions, programs, and services.

Partner with university departments to support student success through an academic curriculum focused on theater.

Build relationships with local community leaders to represent the university and oversee outreach programs.

Ensure safe operation of CAD office and Stevenson Event Center.

30% Supervision

Lead career staff in implementing operational and program plans, set goals, and conduct performance appraisals.

Train and support student staff for program participation, marketing, and governance.

Oversee contracted theater professionals and ensure project outcomes meet student needs.

Make decisions on performance, salary, hiring, and HR matters.

Recommend staff promotions, awards, and separations.

15% Program Budget Administration

Oversee budget planning and ensure compliance with fiscal policies.

Advise CAD Board on budget analysis, strategic planning, and financial policies.

Lead fundraising and development efforts, including grant writing and partnerships.

15% Student Governance Mentorship

Develop student events and workshops that support growth and development.

Promote democratic engagement principles and facilitate student participation.

Ensure compliance with student organization regulations.

Provide training and oversight for effective governance.

10% Policy, Procedure, and Initiative Management

Recommend changes to policies and serve as resource on diversity initiatives.

Maintain knowledge of university policies and laws.

Manage implementation of program policies responding to institutional goals.

Collaborate with administrators and staff on campus and system‑wide committees.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.

Substantial experience managing multiple projects and programs.

Demonstrated commitment to student success and relationships.

Record of innovative leadership in diversity and student engagement programs.

Experience supervising professional staff with participatory management skills.

Experience in public relations, marketing, and advertising.

Experience developing curricula and educational courses.

Excellent facilitation, oral presentation, and written communication skills.

Knowledge of multi‑fund financial resources and budget planning.

Knowledge of risk assessment and mitigation.

Knowledge of arts education and performing‑arts business practices.

Strong knowledge of technical production for theater or live performance.

Understanding of issues facing students from diverse backgrounds.

Skill in problem solving and innovation.

Ability to interpret and convey complex policies concisely.

Experience in student development and mentorship.

Flexibility, cooperation, and collaboration in complex environments.

Strong independent prioritization and project management skills.

Knowledge of IT networks and file sharing.

Proven leadership and communication skills that foster collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in technical theatre or equivalent experience/training.

Special Conditions of Employment

Ability to work long periods at a computer and to ascend/descend ladders.

Primarily on campus with possible remote work.

Occasional evenings and weekends as directed.

Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.
