Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of SOMeCA, the Director of the Cultural Arts and Diversity Resource Center (CAD) has primary responsibility for the strategic direction, planning, development, integration, evaluation, and overall administration of CAD. The Director works collaboratively to develop the vision, goals, and objectives of the center and oversees their accomplishment. The incumbent is responsible for administration, supervision, budget management, human resources, policy development, student leadership and development, and serves as a member of the unit's management team.
Job Duties
30% — Program Development and Administration
Provides leadership for the management and development of the CAD, an innovative theater program that fosters an inclusive campus community and promotes intercultural learning and personal development for students from diverse backgrounds.
Maintains current knowledge of local and national trends in performing arts initiatives and conducts assessments of theater developments through research and participation in national organizations.
Works with CAD’s Board of Directors and student leaders to assess and develop theater productions, programs, and services that address student experiences, establishing trust and exercising good judgment.
Collaborates with the Dean of Arts, Chair of Performance, Play & Design, faculty, and College Provosts to support student success and may serve as instructor of record for theater history and production classes.
Builds relationships with UCSC Office of Admissions, community colleges, and local community leaders to represent the university and oversee outreach programs.
Ensures the safe, secure, and optimal operation of CAD office and Stevenson Event Center, initiating service improvements in facilities and operational design.
30% — Supervision
Leads career staff in developing and implementing operational and program plans, setting goals and resolving problems with regular meetings and performance appraisals.
Provides leadership, training, and direction to student staff in support services, market services, and financial governance, conducting quarterly evaluations and performance goals.
Oversees contracted theater professionals, monitoring deliverables and ensuring outcomes align with student interests.
Makes decisions on performance, salary actions, hiring, and other human resources issues for managed staff.
Hires, promotes, and takes corrective action for career staff, and supports hiring and retention goals.
Evaluates staffing needs for student staff and interns, recommending reassignments or reorganizations.
15% — Program Budget Administration
Oversees budgeting, ensuring compliance with fiscal policies, state and federal law, and internal controls.
Advises CAD Board on budget analysis, strategic planning, fund accounting, and financial policies.
Leads fundraising and development plans, writes grants, and manages student scholarship funds.
15% — Student Governance Mentorship
Oversees student events and workshops that promote growth and development of the whole person.
Promotes democratic engagement and facilitates student participation in university dialogues.
Ensures compliance with RSO requirements, provides governance training, and oversees management of student resources.
10% — Policy, Procedure, and Initiative Management
Recommends changes to policies, practices, and procedures affecting the program and serves as a campus resource on diversity initiatives.
Maintains knowledge of university and local laws, recommending policy changes and collaborating with appropriate offices.
Manages program policy development and evaluation to meet changing student needs and university goals.
Collaborates with administrators, faculty, and staff to advance institutional goals and serves on committees; builds collaborative relationships.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
Substantial experience managing multiple projects and programs to achieve desired outcomes.
Commitment to student success with strong student‑relationship skills.
Record of innovative leadership in diversity and student engagement programs.
Experience supervising professional staff with participatory management skills.
Experience in public relations, marketing, and advertising.
Experience developing curricula and effective instructional structures.
Excellent facilitation, oral presentation, and written communication skills.
Knowledge of managing multi‑fund financial resources and strategic planning.
Knowledge of risk assessment principles and mitigation.
Knowledge of arts education and performing arts business practices.
Knowledge of technical production for theater and live performance.
Experience addressing issues of students from diverse ethnic, cultural, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Problem‑solving ability with original solutions and collaborative improvements.
Ability to stay current on policies and convey them clearly.
Knowledge of student development, mentorship, and organizational development principles.
Flexibility, cooperation, and collaboration within a complex environment.
Ability to set priorities, complete multiple projects, and solve complex problems under pressure.
Knowledge of IT networks, including servers and file sharing.
Strong leadership and communication skills fostering collaborative relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in technical theater or equivalent experience/training.

Budgeted Salary: $83,000 – $87,710 annually.
Schedule
Full‑time, Fixed; 100% / 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, Day shift.
