Responsibilities

Review records and interview inmates to assess sexual violence level, treatment needs, and treatment amenability

Develop and modify individual treatment plans and goals as required by individual needs of the inmates

Provide offense specific treatment to sex offenders by conducting group therapy (Track I, Track II, Intensive Treatment Community, etc.) and supplemental individual therapy, status reviews, homework assignment reviews and feedback, and evaluations according to the Sex Offender Treatment and Monitoring Program (SOTMP) program design

Document assessment and treatment interventions, progress or lack of, utilizing the appropriate department forms and codes for mental health files and departmental databases

Assure continuity of care for sex offenders by providing written reports for consideration of community corrections placement and Parole Board hearings, following SOTMP therapist manuals and protocols, and providing necessary information to receiving agencies, providers and facilities; provide consultation to staff, other agencies, and boards inside and outside DOC; workshops and follow up contact for the family and community support systems of sex offenders

Promote and be accountable for the safety and security of the clinical and correctional environment through conscientious observations, and sensitive item contraband control

Inform supervisor of any violations of safety and security through the report writing process, attend training programs as assigned, including self‑defense course to ensure self‑protection skills

Participate in Sex Offender Treatment & Monitoring Program meetings to design and update program content, receive training, conduct staffing on inmates throughout the DOC to determine treatment recommendations for SOTMP and other mental health services to ensure consistent delivery of sex offender treatment services throughout the DOC

Review sex offender specific evaluations; provide training for the correctional system regarding the philosophy, rationale, treatment and management of sex offenders' high risk behaviors in a therapeutic community; participate in sub‑committees; research, maintain and analyze program statistics

Minimum Qualifications

Current, valid Colorado license or registered candidate as a:

Licensed Social Worker (LSW)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC)

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Candidate (LMFTC)

Addiction Counselor Candidate (ADDC)

Current, valid full license from Colorado in any of the above fields also meets the requirements for this classification

Special Qualifications
Sex Offender Treatment and Monitoring Program (SOTMP): If appointed to a position, you have 30 days after completion of the Training Academy to apply to obtain listing with the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB).

Self‑control, a strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations

Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout their shift

Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation with a master's or doctoral degree in a mental health field such as counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy or psychology from an accredited program

License eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Work, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Psychologist

Experience providing mental health treatment in a correctional environment

Conditions of Employment

Must be 21 years of age

Possess a valid driver’s license. Drivers must maintain a valid, non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license, obey traffic laws, and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle

Possess a high school diploma or GED

Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination are required to disclose the details of the prior termination or resignation on the application, explain why the circumstances of the prior separation should not disqualify them from the current position, and provide their employee number from prior State employment. Absence of this information will disqualify the applicant

Have NO felony convictions, including definitions under federal statutes; the agency shall not hire or promote anyone with sexual or violent offenses or other disqualifying conduct

Applicants must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of application; DOC cannot provide H‑1B sponsorship at this time

Successfully pass all modules of the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical examinations in Defensive Tactics

Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics, including lifting arms above head, stabilizing another person, delivering blows, withstanding impact, swinging a baton, rotating body 90 degrees, repeated kneeling and rising, and other specified movements

Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and on assignment

Assure vision and hearing are adequate to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security

Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury

Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently

Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations

Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner

Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments

Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature, including working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings

Willing and able to travel

Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule

TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire
