Proof Strategies · Washington, DC, USA ·

Job type:
Full Time

Position Summary
At Proof Strategies, we believe trust is earned, and we work every day to help our clients do just that.

As a right-sized agency, we partner with mission-driven government agencies, cause-based nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and growing companies with an expanding U.S. footprint. As the Washington, D.C. office of one of North America's leading independent communications consultancies, we combine the capabilities of a larger firm with the responsiveness, flexibility, and direct access of a boutique team.

As our Washington office continues to grow, we're always interested in connecting with talented communications professionals across a range of experience levels, from Account Executives to Senior Directors. We welcome candidates with approximately 2-10+ years of experience depending on background, expertise, and specialization.

Our team supports a wide range of public relations and strategic communications initiatives, including securing national, trade, political, and consumer media coverage; supporting Capitol Hill and stakeholder events; developing communications strategies around major announcements, research releases, and policy initiatives; advising senior leaders; and helping organizations navigate complex communications challenges.

We are looking for people who are collaborative, flexible, and motivated by growth. The ideal candidates are comfortable managing multiple priorities, communicating directly with clients, adapting quickly, and operating thoughtfully in politically sensitive or fast-moving environments. Strong judgment, emotional intelligence, professionalism, and a willingness to learn are just as important to us as technical communications skills.

Good humor is a must! Only candidates residing in the greater Washington, D.C. area will be considered.

What You Might Work On

Earned media strategy, media relations, and reporter outreach across national, regional, trade, business, consumer, lifestyle, policy, and political publications

Executive visibility and thought leadership initiatives, including op-eds, speaking opportunities, executive social media, and executive communications

Strategic messaging, narrative development, and communications planning for organizations navigating complex policy, reputational, and stakeholder challenges

Drafting and editing communications materials, including press releases, newsletters, media materials, talking points, briefing documents, presentations, speeches, and strategic recommendations

Brand storytelling and organizational announcements, campaign launches, and integrated communications initiatives that build visibility, credibility, and audience engagement

Event strategy and coordination, including stakeholder convenings, Capitol Hill events, media events, conferences, executive engagements, and public-facing programs

Monitoring media, industry, and stakeholder landscapes to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and risks

Providing strategic communications counsel to senior leaders and organizational decision-makers

Supporting integrated communications campaigns alongside digital, marketing, public affairs, and creative teams

Supporting new business efforts, including research, proposal development, and pitch materials

Helping contribute to a growing office environment where people are encouraged to take initiative and grow beyond rigid role definitions

What You Bring

Approximately 2-10+ years of experience in public relations, strategic communications, media relations, journalism, corporate and consumer communications, nonprofit communications, public affairs, or related fields

Agency experience is a plus, but not required!

Comfort communicating directly with clients and managing multiple priorities simultaneously

Ability to operate thoughtfully in politically sensitive, fast-moving, or high-visibility environments while exercising sound judgment and professionalism

Experience working with nonprofit, corporate, government, energy, healthcare, advocacy, technology, or policy-focused organizations is a plus

Familiarity with media monitoring, media databases, CRM, email marketing, or communications platforms such as Meltwater, Cision, Leadership Connect, Muck Rack, Salesforce, Mailchimp, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, or similar tools is preferred

Interest in how emerging technologies and AI-supported workflows can improve research, strategic insight, content development, and communications execution

Strong writing, editing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills

Our Work Culture
As a growing office, we value people who are willing to raise their hand, take ownership, contribute ideas, and step outside traditional job descriptions when opportunities arise. Some of the best professional growth happens when you're trusted with challenges you haven't tackled before.

We work hard, support one another, and genuinely enjoy what we do. While our work often involves serious issues and high-profile organizations, we think a sense of humor goes a long way.

Our team works in a hybrid environment, with two days per week in our office near Gallery Place-Chinatown and three days remotely.
