The Director of Social Media Strategy will develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with the university’s strategic goals, objectives and overall messaging. This role involves overseeing social media projects, analyzing performance metrics and sentiment, and driving engagement across various platforms. Reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Communications, the Director will collaboratively implement a global storytelling approach and results‑oriented social media plan that enhances the university’s social media reach and effectiveness.
Responsibilities
Create and lead social media campaigns from concept to execution
Develop and maintain social media guidelines for all university branded social media accounts
Implement social media strategies across platforms that are aligned with the university’s storytelling strategy (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube)
Set quantitative and qualitative measurable goals, and analyse and report on performance, routinely identifying insights to optimize reach and engagement
Develop and post high‑quality written content and multimedia content, including videos and infographics, tailored for various social media platforms
Develop content calendars featuring relevant holidays, organic campaign strategies and social media initiatives in collaboration with the university’s communication planning and messaging
Support media relations efforts, including social media, for all coordinated messaging
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
Minimum of eight years of experience
Experience as a digital content creator, with a portfolio showcasing a range of content types
Strong familiarity with social media tools like Sprout Social and Hootsuite, as well as with in‑platform analytics on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
Experience working with executive leadership to develop their social presence through strategy creation, content development, posting and monitoring
Certification in social media content creation and strategy or digital storytelling preferred
Must be able to work after hours and weekends

Knowledge of:
Relevant social media trends, tools and best practices
Skills:
Proficiency in video editing for social media platforms
Excellent project management, organisational, diplomacy, interpersonal, analytical and critical thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in creating editorial calendars for multiple social media channels (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) and scheduling content
Capable of crafting engaging and concise content, with a keen attention to detail
Ability to:
Work independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams and external constituents
Create engaging and visually appealing content tailored to each platform’s specifications, such as aspect ratios, video lengths, and trends in video styles and formats
Provide reporting, analytics and recommendations on overall channel performance and specific campaigns, utilising both qualitative and quantitative data for decision‑making
Develop, implement and adjust social media strategies and campaigns to strategically drive audience growth and engagement
Be a creative, strategic thinker able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, respond quickly to time‑sensitive matters and take initiative to manage projects from inception through completion
