The purpose of the Senior Account Manager is to serve as the primary day‑to‑day relationship lead for assigned client accounts, ensuring seamless communication, strategic alignment and exceptional service delivery. This role translates strategy into action by interfacing with internal stakeholders to move projects through the agency while maintaining strong client trust and confidence.
Accountabilities
Strategy, writing and research support – Under the guidance of your supervisor, you will participate in writing and presenting detailed, well‑researched integrated marketing and communication plans for clients. You may assist in conducting research, developing content strategies, writing findings reports, and preparing performance reports, case studies and award submissions. You brief internal teams and outside resources such as freelance designers, writers, research specialists, web designers and community relations experts on strategy, providing the input they need to complete their jobs.
Scope execution – You are involved in the day‑to‑day workflow and implementation of approved plans and strategies, working with your team to execute research and communications plans and with other specialists to complete tasks beyond your individual capabilities. You ensure everything flows through the proper process, has been approved by the appropriate personnel and has been thoroughly proofread and meets expectations set forth in plans, briefs and standards guides. You may pick up a variety of tasks to ensure scopes of work are executed, from writing content to developing media lists to pitching media.
Budget reviews and project estimating – You help prepare budget worksheets/estimates and review project budgets weekly, informing your supervisor regularly of progress and involving them immediately if potential budget problems arise.
Client relationship management – You serve as the primary day‑to‑day contact for assigned clients, building trusted relationships rooted in responsiveness, proactive communication and strategic counsel. You anticipate client needs, identify risks before they escalate and provide thoughtful recommendations grounded in your understanding of their business and industry. You maintain positive client relations and elevate concerns to your supervisor when necessary, ensuring alignment between client expectations, approved scope and agency execution.
Public relations and crisis communication leadership – You support and help lead proactive media relations strategies, message development and reputation management efforts for clients. You assist in preparing crisis communication plans, holding statements, Q&A’s and internal communication materials. During sensitive or high‑risk situations, you work closely with your supervisor to ensure timely, strategic and coordinated responses that protect client reputation and advance business objectives.
Project scoping – You gather information from the client and work with internal and external partners to develop proposals or briefs for new client projects or scopes of work, under the guidance of your supervisor. With your supervisor’s approval, you may work directly with digital or research partners to obtain proposals and estimates relevant to requested or recommended work. You recommend and develop change orders as needed.
Plan writing – For accounts you lead and support, you develop and support the development of strategic communications plans using the Kane Way process. You work with your team to define problems, outcomes, goals, objectives and KPIs, and manage and measure these throughout the project.
Account retention, growth and projections – You provide exceptional service to clients, responding to needs, requests and changes in direction quickly. You stay abreast of the communications, marketing and PR industries as well as client industries to bring new ideas to both clients and supervisor. For accounts you lead without a supervisor’s support, you set annual growth and retention goals with your supervisor, and provide monthly team resourcing and financial projections to aid in staff and bandwidth planning.
Special projects – You work on special projects as needed.
Participate in and attend networking events – You attend relevant industry and community events to build relationships and promote agency capabilities.
