Job Purpose
The Deputy Director, Digital Marketing is a strategic leader and hands‑on professional responsible for driving the growth, impact, and operational excellence of Vital Strategies’ digital presence. Reporting to the Director of Creative and Digital Strategy (DCD), this role bridges the gap between high‑level brand vision and technical execution, overseeing a multidisciplinary team to deliver cohesive storytelling across the website, social channels, and paid media.
As a champion for digital innovation, the Deputy Director ensures that complex public health initiatives are translated into compelling, data‑driven marketing campaigns. This is a role for a curious explorer of new technologies—particularly AI—who can optimize workflows, establish robust standard operating procedures, and mentor staff to elevate the organization’s digital influence and global reputation. The role also requires leading pitch presentations for leadership and cross‑functional teams, consistently aligning digital strategies with overarching business objectives.
This is a full‑time position based in our New York office, with a hybrid, 2‑day‑per‑week office schedule. The salary range for this position is $127,000 to $139,000 USD. Compensation is highly competitive and we offer comprehensive benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy (25%)- Partner with Director of Creative and Digital Strategy (DCD) to elevate Vital Strategies as a leading global public health organization, positioning the brand uniquely and creatively.
- Collaborate with DCD on vision and strategy for digital marketing, owning digital team execution across website, microsites, social channels, email marketing, and digital paid advertising.
- Identify and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for content planning, editorial calendars, and project management to ensure agility and consistency.
- Participate in planning meetings with program, communications, development, or other teams where digital campaigns may be required.
- Establish KPIs, milestones, and roadmap to achieve growth across channels.
- Manage day‑to‑day operations to ensure timely and responsive service for requests from other teams.
- Actively manage digital team expectations and workloads, identifying the need for consultant support to accomplish priority tasks.
- Explore new tools—especially AI—to increase efficiency and quality control.
- Support strategy presentations to leadership with digital insights and performance data.
- Contribute personally to the development of new content, including writing, ideation, and execution against key content pillars such as web and social content.
- Identify opportunities for digital storytelling experiences, working with the Digital Experience Lead and consulting front‑end developers or utilizing new platforms.
- Partner with DCD and other contributors to conceptualize new landing pages that showcase key products or impact.
- Partner with DCD to foster a culture of accountability, feedback, and collaborative problem‑solving, including directly managing two reports.
- Manage a new Digital Experience Lead to increase capabilities in digital storytelling opportunities.
- Mentor and manage the Digital Content Producer, ensuring continuous evolution of creative and high‑quality content creation across channels.
- Evaluate and propose digital team structure and individual focus areas to create an efficient, agile, and responsive team.
- Collaborate closely with DCD, in‑house designers, and/or design consultants to create creative and visually engaging digital assets.
- Share and mentor best practices in digital communications and marketing within the Creative team and larger Policy Advocacy and Communications team.
- Oversee the production of high‑quality and creative content across all digital platforms to grow the global audience and promote organizational objectives, products, and people.
- Partner with DCD to develop strategies to expand and diversify audiences through organic reach, authentic storytelling, and staff and partner involvement.
- Steer and execute an integrated approach across digital channels, including social media, newsletter, and the website.
- Develop and execute a digital marketing calendar to continuously promote organizational priorities, key products, thought leadership, and the CEO.
- In coordination with PR and Communications teams, lead the strategy and execution of rapid‑response communications across digital channels.
- Facilitate digital partnerships with NGOs, coalitions, and influencers to amplify the organization’s voice through shared networks and toolkits.

- Skilled at leading digital solution visioning and design, interfacing directly with stakeholders to understand needs and develop strategic digital solutions.
- Ability to synthesize data, response metrics, and trends to inform decision‑making and digital strategy development.

- Strong understanding of digital technologies and knowledge of emerging digital technologies.

Qualifications
Education and Degree- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Marketing).
Experience Required
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive professional experience in digital, social media, email, or related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and developing direct reports.
- Successful track record of developing and executing digital strategies and campaigns in a fast‑paced environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- The position may involve up to 10% travel to various international locations, depending on organizational needs.
