Roadway Lighting Technician II
This position involves skilled electrical work in the installation and maintenance of roadway lighting systems and other electrical devices. Responsibilities include installation, routine maintenance, and emergency repairs of lighting equipment, including poles, load centers, underground and overhead cables, and associated equipment.

Essential Job Functions
Installs and maintains roadway lighting equipment, performs underground cable locates, conducts preventative maintenance inspections, cleans optical systems, replaces lamps and cables, and adjusts poles and fixtures. Works on circuits up to 480 volts, follows electrical safety and lockout procedures, and operates bucket truck or digger derrick truck as required. Periodic night shift work may be required for inspections, and employees may be called upon after hours for emergencies. Assists traffic signal staff and schedules maintenance in accordance with FDOT quarterly requirements, maintains a database of lighting systems, manages stock of materials, and procures replacements for lost or damaged equipment. Writes and maintains reports of nighttime surveys for use by other technicians. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Gains knowledge of methods, practices, techniques, and materials of roadway lighting and the electrical trade.

Reads and works from plans, schematics, and displays.

Follows oral and written instructions.

Troubleshoots and locates defective devices, making necessary repairs.

Uses hand and power tools.

Operates a personal computer.

Operates a variety of motor vehicles, including bucket truck and digger derrick truck.

Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and four (4) years’ experience in electrical construction and maintenance or as an electrical journeyman. Two (2) years’ experience in roadway lighting maintenance or construction is required. Graduation from an electrical trade school preferred.

Physical Skills / Working Conditions
Requires working outdoors, walking, stooping, bending, climbing, and stretching. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Works at heights up to 65 feet above the ground from a bucket truck. Effective verbal, written, and visual communication is required.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class “B” with Air Brakes. International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) or Florida Department of Transportation Work Zone Certification is required or must be obtained within six (6) months from hire. Must obtain an International Municipal Signal Association Roadway Lighting Certification level I within the first year of employment.

All applicants who meet minimum requirements will be scheduled for a written test. A passing grade is required prior to an interview.
