Working closely with faculty, this position provides skilled musical accompaniment that enhances the rhythm, dynamics, and artistic quality of dance instruction. In addition to contributing to instruction, this role serves as a valued resource in the care, maintenance, and selection of musical instruments used in the program. Summary of Responsibilities

In collaboration with the course instructor, provides musical accompaniment that enhances and supports the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class material.
Provides professional expertise on the maintenance and acquisition of instruments.
Responsible for storage of all instruments used in class.
Provides musical accompaniment in support of the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class material.
May serve as an assistant accompanist or musician for departmental rehearsals, performances, guest instructors, and choreographers.
Provides professional expertise on the maintenance and acquisition of instruments.
Stores all instruments used in various classes as needed.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Candidates must audition for the position and demonstrate the ability to provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class content.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Dance, Dance Education, Choreography, Performing Arts, or a closely related field.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Previous experience accompanying Ballet, Modern, or World Dance classes.
Knowledge of classical repertory.
Knowledge of terminology used in technique classes.
Skills in musical styles and instruments that support the specific dance class.
Ability to provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class content.
Ability to play a wide range of styles with an ability to improvise and provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class movement content.
