Responsibilities
Peraton is searching for a talented

z/OS Systems Programming Manager

to become part of Peraton's Citizens Security & Public Services, State and Regional team supporting a contract with the state of Alabama. This leadership position will include hands‑on mainframe systems programming responsibilities and can be delivered remotely.

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities

Oversee the design and definition of the system and network architecture for new or existing complex computer systems

Propose efficient transition approaches to new technology platforms and define transitions for the addition of new customers to our Data Center location in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Manage software and network product solutions, performance, upgrades and enhancements, and disaster recovery initiatives

Share cost, schedule, and technical program management responsibilities with the Data Center Program, Facilities and Operations Managers

Manage and assist with the daily operations of the systems team (supervision of the system programmers and network engineer, assignment of work, schedules, day-to-day workflow, performance management, and operating costs)

Formulate policies, procedures, and standards relating to systems, and network management

Perform and report system-wide capacity analysis and recommendations for future technical/solution direction and areas for improvement

Provide program management and customer reports to include: Service Level Agreement (SLA) adherence; systems performance; network performance; disaster recovery planning, test approaches, and test results; and future technology direction forecasts

Collaborate on annual ALECS Disaster Recovery exercises

Develop and maintain product vendor relationships

Responsible for personnel, software, network and DR program budgets and related assets

Oversee the design, implementation and support of system, database and application backup and recovery solutions.

Manage and assist with the upgrade and maintenance of the system, DB2 and related 3rd‑party software at or above release levels of N‑1 and collaborate within the Data Center Team and the customer locations

Manage and assist team members in the following Data Center functional areas: technical services, systems programming and administration, security administration, network engineering, software and network asset management, hardware/software
etwork procurements, and disaster recovery

Manage and assist with all aspects of complex technology software and network solutions; operating system and third‑party software asset management, installation, and maintenance; disaster recovery planning and test execution; network architecture and solution asset management, installation, and maintenance; and systems security and maintenance

Data Center board member and/or chairperson for: Change Management, Problem Management, and Risk Management and supports various technical categories of Program Management for one or more contracts

Lead, facilitate, respond to, or partner with peers in response to customer, Federal, IRS, or corporate audits, questionnaires, or reviews related to Data Center delivery, SLAs, or regulatory requirements

Program or project risk assessment, risk management, and risk avoidance strategies and techniques

Ensure systems adherence and compliance with customer contract requirements and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

Develop and maintain the following schedules: on-call, database monitoring, database software and product upgrades, systems monitoring, systems software and network product upgrades, systems administration, team change management activities, various technical projects and value‑added initiatives, various training initiatives including technical training and certifications

Coordinate technical and program activities with internal Data Center team members, customers, and corporate peers

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications

High School diploma with 10+ years of experience

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green card holder.

5 years of hands‑on experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer

Hands‑on experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting z/OS mainframe environments

5 years of experience in a technical lead or project lead role supporting senior‑level technical teams

5 years experience in analyzing and solving system software and/or network problems or issues

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting data center environments, including hosting, infrastructure services, and systems programming

Experience providing technical leadership in data center outsourcing or managed services environments

Strong background in enterprise mainframe technologies

Experience installing, maintaining, and configuring z/OS mainframe software and related subsystems

Experience working in a 24x7x365 service delivery environment, including participation in on‑call rotations, weekends, and holidays

Experience supporting disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution

Experience supporting Firm Fixed Price programs or contracts

Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio

Target Salary Range
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
