Our employees work with students, faculty, and practitioners from local and global social-problem-solving organizations to develop the faith and skills to solve social problems.
The Marketing and Communications (MarComms) team is responsible for elevating the Ballard Center’s brand and building our engaged community of over ten thousand changemakers. MarComms manages key platforms with over 1.2 million annual views and uses data-informed strategies to increase our influence and impact.
As a PR Specialist, you will be instrumental in storytelling, strategic communication, and outreach that amplifies the Ballard Center’s mission and programs. In this role, you will help gather, share, and organize compelling Ballard Center stories and prepare them to pitch to publishing outlets.
Must be reliable, responsible, organized, driven, and a great problem-solver. All work is in-person at 314 TNRB. Must work a minimum of 10 hours per week during normal office hours, and a maximum of 20 hours per week during the school year.
Hours can be custom designed to work with your classes, but once set, you will be expected to keep that schedule.
Starting Pay : $14.50/hour with a $0.50 raise after completing onboarding
Hours: 10-20 hours/week during Fall/Winter semesters with flexible scheduling and mandatory participation in team and center-wide meetings. Various hours/week available during Spring/Summer terms upon supervisor approval.

Qualifications/Skills
Excellent written communication and editing skills
Ability to transform complex information into clear, engaging stories for media, stakeholders, and public audiences
Adept proficiency in crafting compelling story pitches
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with BYU faculty and other team members
Ability to navigate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
Self-motivated, organized, and able to meet deadlines
Passion for social impact and the mission of the Ballard Center
Experience in PR, journalism, communications, or marketing is preferred
Responsibilities/Duties
Identify and collect impactful stories from students, alumni, faculty, and collaborator organizations
Conduct interviews and additional research to develop engaging narratives
Craft story pitches and press releases
Develop content for website articles and potential external publishing entities
Maintain clean and precise organization across all aspects of work
