Director of Marketing & Fan Experience for Women's Basketball

The Director of Marketing & Fan Experience is responsible for developing and executing strategic marketing, fan engagement, and revenue generation initiatives that support the University of South Carolina Athletics Department. This position works to enhance the Gamecock Athletics brand, drive attendance and ticket sales, create meaningful community engagement opportunities, and develop innovative fan experiences that contribute to the department's overall success. The Director serves as the primary marketing contact for women's basketball and provides strategic oversight of community outreach initiatives, assigned non-ticketed sports, and revenue-generating events. Additionally, this position supports departmental priorities related to fan development, attendance growth, community engagement, and revenue generation while cultivating relationships that enhance the visibility and impact of Gamecock Athletics throughout the state.
Required Education and Experience: Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in marketing, sport management, communications, business administration, public relations, or a related field. Experience working in NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics, preferably at the Power Four level. Experience collaborating with multimedia rights partners, ticket operations, communications, creative services, and external stakeholders. Experience with budget management, strategic planning, and departmental operations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated experience developing and executing marketing plans, attendance initiatives, and fan engagement programs. Experience planning and executing game presentation and promotional activities for athletic events. Experience supervising, mentoring, or training interns or other project teams. Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by athletic event schedules.
Job Duties:
Women's Basketball Marketing Strategy & Attendance Growth: Serve as the primary marketing contact for women's basketball, developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive marketing, fan engagement, and game presentation plans designed to increase attendance, enhance the game-day atmosphere, and support revenue objectives. Create and execute promotional campaigns, group sales initiatives, theme nights, grassroots marketing efforts, and other attendance-driving programs. Plan, coordinate, and execute all fan experience and game presentation elements for women's basketball, including game themes, entertainment elements, promotions, sponsor activations, videoboard content, public address announcements, and fan engagement initiatives. Collaborate with coaches, sport administrators, communications, creative services, ticket operations, Learfield, and external partners to execute integrated marketing campaigns and achieve departmental goals.
Revenue Generation & Special Events: Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative revenue-generating events and fan engagement initiatives that support departmental objectives. Lead marketing efforts related to assigned special events, which could include Garnet & Black Madness, the Making Spirits Bright Holiday Pop-Up, and other departmental events. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify new opportunities for fan development, community engagement, sponsorship activation, and revenue growth.
Non-Ticketed Sport Oversight: Provide strategic oversight and direction for marketing efforts for assigned non-ticketed sports through the training, supervision, and mentorship of marketing interns. Ensure marketing plans, promotional initiatives, and attendance-building efforts align with departmental goals and brand standards. Assist interns in the development and execution of marketing campaigns, game presentation elements, and fan engagement initiatives that support the student-athlete and fan experience across assigned programs.
Administrative Responsibilities & Departmental Support: Assist with departmental planning, special projects, budget management, and other assignments as requested. Support the execution of departmental marketing initiatives, fan engagement programs, and revenue-generating events. Provide guidance and support to marketing interns assigned to non-ticketed sports while fostering professional growth and development. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Athletics Department.
Community Outreach Programs & Fan Development: Provide strategic oversight of the department's community outreach initiatives, including Active Gamecocks and Read with the Gamecocks. Develop and execute marketing plans, promotional campaigns, and engagement strategies that expand the reach and impact of these programs throughout the state. Cultivate relationships with schools, educators, community organizations, and other stakeholders to increase participation and strengthen the connection between Gamecock Athletics and local communities. Evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for growth and enhanced community engagement.
