Assistant Director of Communications & Public Relations

The University of South Carolina is seeking a qualified applicant for an Assistant Director of Communications and Public Relations position. Responsibilities include:
Promote the assigned sports through traditional media relations means, including pitching stories, press releases, notes, previews, and recaps, using Adobe Creative Cloud products.
Develop and implement an overall content strategy for internal channels – social media platforms and official athletics website – for the assigned sports, working closely with creative media and marketing departments.
Liaise with creative media department to ensure all scheduled events have photo and video coverage.
Develop working relationships with all constituencies of assigned teams – coaching staffs, student-athletes, sport supervisors, support staff, local, regional and national media.
Ensure accurate statistical, data and photo archiving of the assigned sports.
Maintain and upkeep the assigned sports pages on the official website of Gamecock Athletics, GamecocksOnline.com.
Coordinate the publicity efforts to direct media attention toward student-athletes and coaches being considered or nominated for special awards or recognition.
Supervise the press operations for the assigned sports. Ensure that an adequate staff of student assistants are assigned specific roles and are available to assist with media and social media coverage of the home events.
Report statistics and award nominations to the conference and national offices.
Relocation costs may be available.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience - Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications - Prefer experience at the collegiate level at a Division I school. Experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Knowledge/familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations as they relate to Communications and PR. Proficiency of Adobe Creative Cloud products, social media platforms, shooting/editing video, photography and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations that pertain to athletic communications is beneficial.
Job Duties
Serve as the primary and/or secondary communications contact for multiple sports. Promote the programs through the traditional media relations means, including record book, event flipcard, press releases, notes, previews, and recaps, using Adobe Indesign and Photoshop. Maintain and upkeep the assigned sports on the official website of Gamecock Athletics, Gamecocksonline.com.
Promote the assigned athletic programs through social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, using graphics developed in Photoshop.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with local, regional and national media. Coordinate interview requests for audio, visual and print media.
Coordinate all photography needs, including hiring photographers, working within an established budget, and archiving all photos for the assigned sports
Supervise the press box operations for the assigned sports. Ensure that an adequate staff of student-assistant workers are assigned specific roles and are available to assist with media coverage of the home events.
Report statistics and award nominations to the SEC and NCAA.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director of Communications and Public Relations.
