The Colfax School District is seeking a passionate Band Director to lead our 5th – 12th grade band program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instrumental music and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching and inspiring students. Job duties include teaching grades 5-12 band, 2 additional classes as assigned, and directing the pep band.
Responsibilities
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and student growth.
- Support student growth beyond the classroom through performances and special events.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on student performance to promote progress and skill development.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic progress, classroom expectations, and student support services.
- Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities to apply current instructional practices.
- Lead the fall and winter pep band in their performances for home games and at district, regional, and state competitions.
- Escort school bands to yearly events such as Mass Band, Honor Band, JH Band Festival, and HS Band Festival.
- Participate in departmental meetings, faculty committees, and school-wide events as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (minimum)
- Valid teaching certificate with Instrumental Music endorsement (or eligible for certification)
- Undergo a criminal background check, including fingerprinting
- Experience teaching band at the junior or senior high school level (preferred)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create a positive and productive learning environment and manage student behavior effectively
- Be adaptable: adjust teaching methods and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students
- Genuine enthusiasm for education and a commitment to helping students succeed academically and personally
- Dedication to ongoing professional growth and development
