The English Department has a long history of teaching composition, literature, and rhetoric and providing students of diverse backgrounds with quality education and personalized support.
Duties of the Position
- Teach the 4-unit English 368 Zaum class, offering experience in editing and publishing a student literary journal.
- Coordinate logistics with a printing company, campus events, promotion, and publicity for the literary magazine.
- Follow university syllabus policies.
- Hold office hours (typical 1 hour per 3-unit course).
- Teach the course both Fall and Spring semesters; subsequent spring teaching is contingent upon funding.
Required Qualifications
- MFA or PhD in Creative Writing.
- Previous editorial or leadership role in publishing a print literary magazine at graduate level or in a professional capacity.
- Publication of creative work in regionally prominent journals.
- Previous teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience in literary publishing and promotion, and/or organizing literary events.
- Publication of a book of poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction.
- Significant national journal publications.
- Significant teaching experience in creative writing workshops and publishing.
Rank and Salary
Full-time position, 15-unit workload per semester. Salary is commensurate with degree level and experience. Anticipated monthly base salary range: $5,507 – $6,677. The full-time monthly base is prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments.
