What you'll do

Lead and conduct the university's concert bands, jazz ensembles, and percussion groups, ensuring high-quality performances and educational experiences for students.
Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for the bands and percussion programs, focusing on skill development, music theory, and performance techniques.
Organize and oversee rehearsals, performances, and competitions, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for all participants.
Mentor and guide students in their musical journeys, providing individualized feedback and support to help them reach their full potential.
Collaborate with other faculty members within the music department to create interdisciplinary projects and performances that enhance the educational experience.
Recruit and retain talented students for the bands and percussion programs, actively participating in outreach efforts to promote the university's music offerings.
Maintain and manage the inventory of instruments and equipment, ensuring that all resources are in good working condition for student use.
Engage with the local community through performances and educational outreach, promoting the university's music programs and fostering community relationships.
Stay current with trends in music education and performance, integrating new methodologies and technologies into the curriculum.
Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the overall growth and development of the music department at West Liberty University.
Evaluate student progress and performance, providing constructive assessments and guidance for improvement.
Plan and execute special events, such as concerts, masterclasses, and workshops, that enhance the visibility and reputation of the music program.
Requirements

A master's degree in music education, conducting, or a related field is required; a doctorate is preferred.
A minimum of three years of experience in teaching music at the secondary or post-secondary level, with a focus on conducting and ensemble leadership.
Proven experience in directing bands and percussion ensembles, with a strong record of successful performances and student development.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, faculty, and the community effectively.
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in music education and performance.
Proficiency in a variety of musical styles and genres, with the ability to teach and inspire students across different musical backgrounds.
