Designer, Women's Outerwear

New York, NY | Full-Time | On-Site
A New York City-based women's apparel brand is seeking an experienced Designer to lead the development of its outerwear category. This role sits within the design team and is responsible for taking styles from initial concept through production handoff, working closely with technical and sourcing partners throughout the process. The position is fully on-site, five days per week at the company's NYC office.
Monday through Friday, on-site in New York, NY.
Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 Per Year
What You'll Do

As the Women's Outerwear Designer, you will own the creative and technical development of styles across the outerwear category. You will develop silhouettes and explore fabrications, linings, trims, hardware, quilting techniques, and construction details that align with the brand's aesthetic and commercial goals. Sketching original designs and translating them into detailed, production-ready tech packs will be a core part of your day-to-day work.
You will attend and lead fit sessions, review counter samples, and provide clear, actionable comments to vendors and factories. Throughout the development calendar, you will help manage the workflow from concept approval through production handoff, coordinating with sourcing, technical design, and production partners to keep timelines on track and quality standards intact.
Required Qualifications

Demonstrated experience designing women's outerwear, including silhouettes, fabrications, linings, trims, hardware, quilting, and construction details
Proficiency in sketching and building detailed tech packs
Experience reviewing fit samples and writing technical comments
Ability to manage the development process from concept through production handoff
Strong understanding of garment construction and fit as it relates to outerwear
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and relevant design or PLM software
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with domestic and international factories and vendors
Familiarity with outerwear-specific materials including down, synthetic fill, wovens, and performance fabrics
Experience collaborating with sourcing and production teams within a branded apparel environment
Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field
