The preferred location for this position is Duke Energy Plaza in Charlotte, North Carolina; however, the hiring manager will consider Raleigh, North Carolina if needed. The exact location will be determined at the time of offer based on business needs. Job Summary

This position is responsible for creating and executing innovative social media and brand journalism strategies that bring to life how Duke Energy and its employees are delivering reliable, affordable and increasingly clean energy. The person in this role will collaborate across the company to produce compelling stories and content that align with the companys brand and business goals. This person will be a results-oriented, strategic thinker with a strong social media background and a passion for engaging audiences in creative ways. The person should be a natural storyteller with a proven track record of setting clear objectives, building an effective content strategy and delivering results that exceed goals. A Lead Communications Manager requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise; takes a broad perspective to solving complex problems and finding innovative solutions; and is recognized as an expert in their functional area. The Lead Communications Manager is expected to integrate across a broad team and reports to the Director of Internal Communications & Digital Media. Responsibilities

Develop and execute social media and brand journalism strategies to drive engagement, brand reputation and business outcomes. Direct high-impact content and campaigns to reach, inform and engage multiple audiences. Maintain, develop and optimize Duke Energys and Piedmont Natural Gass existing social media platform strategies. Assist the content team in creating and promoting brand journalism stories across the companys platforms. Develop and execute effective campaigns, initiatives and projects on time and on budget. Understand, advise and measure social/digital advertising efforts to maximize reach, effectiveness and value of campaigns. Collaborate across internal departments to align social media and brand journalism strategy and narrative to broader company campaigns; leverage content across channels. Assist with maintenance of the social media spokesperson program, as well as development of an employee advocacy program that aligns with the companys mission while driving employee engagement. Assist in planning and scheduling photo and video shoots across Duke Energys service territories as needed. Support the emergency communications function. Stay informed on company and industry-related issues and develop communications strategies to address these issues. Remain apprised of the evolving social media and digital communications landscape and best practices. Serve as part of the companys emergency and storm response team. Basic Qualifications

Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, public relations or other related degree In addition to bachelors degree, eight (8) years minimum of related experience In lieu of bachelors degree, high school diploma/GED AND twelve (12) years minimum of related work experience Desired Qualifications

10+ years of experience in communications, with the majority of that time spent in social media platforms and strategy Proficiency in social media management tools (Sprinklr, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.) Strong understanding and eye for content that connects with key audiences Excellent written, verbal and visual communications skills Experience measuring the effectiveness of social campaigns Experience with crisis communications and/or issues management Exceptional problem-solving, organizational and project management skills, with a meticulous attention to detail Excellent collaboration skills and ability to influence internally Experience in providing sound communications counsel to executives Storytelling experience across a variety of mediums with a proven track record of delivering business outcomes Strong journalistic skills and news judgment Expertise in developing and implementing high-risk communications plans Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills to work efficiently and effectively with clients, teammates and management Experience representing the company externally with challenging audiences in challenging situations Proficient in Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, as well as SharePoint Experience in the electric utility industry Experience with a Fortune 500 company Working Conditions

M F, 2 3 days per week in office. May be required to come into the office more during training or emergency response. Hybrid mobility classification - work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility. Occasional travel 5-15% as needed.
