POSITION OVERVIEW
The City of Elgin's Parks and Recreation department is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join us as a Graphic Design Intern. Applicants must be a current student in a 4-year degree program focused on graphic design or illustration. In this role, you will help experienced recreation program supervisors design, develop and execute marketing content.
While this is an internship, we expect applicants to have a working knowledge of the MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva. You must submit a portfolio of work to be considered. Work is performed to give an overall understanding of the marketing/promotional functions and processes within the Parks and Recreation Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with creating graphic design templates.
- Help develop and execute design concepts and content.
- Produce informational flyers and promotional materials.
- Assist with website development.
- Support digital marketing of the City of Elgin Parks and Recreation Department by performing directed activities.
- Maintain a positive professional public image and attitude with good public relations and customer service.
- Wear appropriate staff uniform.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Abide by all City of Elgin rules and regulations as outlines in the Employee Manual.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Desired interest in practices and role of parks and recreation within a community.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Ability to create eye-catching visual graphic design format.
- Strong ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; demonstrative knowledge of the use and application of MS Office Suite.
- Completion of High School Diploma.
- Pursuing a Bachelor's in Marketing, Design or related field from an accredited college/university.
- Must be available to intern a minimum of 12 weeks for 480 hours at a min. of 40 hr. /week.
