Organizational Overview: Since 1906, National Jeweler has been the must-read news source for smart jewelry professionals. From market analysis to emerging jewelry trends, the publication covers the important industry topics vital to the everyday success of jewelry professionals worldwide. National Jeweler delivers breaking news at, and via our daily e-newsletter and three annual print issues.

Job Summary: The Associate Editor will be in charge of contributing one to two stories a day to for inclusion in the daily newsletter as well as content for use in the print issues and on social media.

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief


·  Write one to two stories every day for inclusion in National Jeweler’s Daily emails, a mix of short news items, blog entries and longer stories that involve conducting interviews, either via email or phone


·   Cover the news “beat,” including quarterly financial reports from public companies, breaking news in the jewelry and broader retail industry, and jewelry crime reports


·   Attend and report on industry events and trade shows in various U.S. and international cities


·   Share National Jeweler content across social media, with a focus on driving traffic to the website via


Twitter, Instagram and Facebook


·   Re-size photos for use on the website using Adobe PhotoShop


·   Post content to the website using the Joomla Content Management System (CMS)


·   Lay out and send the Daily newsletter using the Emma email platform


·   Other related duties as assigned






·   Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or English


·   2-3 years’ experience as a reporter at a daily news publication (digital or print, consumer or trade)




·    Knowledge of and experience in the basic tenants of journalism: interviewing, reporting with accuracy and ethics


·    Proficient software skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)


and Adobe Photoshop


·    Proficient social media skills, with a proven track record of engaging followers


·    Basic understanding of and experience using a Content Management System (CMS) and e-newsletter platform


·    Experience with Joomla and Emma specifically a plus


·    Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing


·    Attention to detail including proofreading skills


·    Ability to work effectively both independently and in teams


·    Ability to manage multiple projects and work within tight deadlines


·    Excellent organizational skills


·    Professional demeanor and cooperative spirit
