Copy & Format Editor Position for Busy Digital Magazine With Daily Content Needs
aBlogtoWatch is seeking a part-time remote-based contractor for ongoing daily copyediting/proofreading as well as general format editing. We publish on average between 50-70 blog-style articles per month via our Wordpress-based back-end system. The copy & format editor will be responsible for completing a check list of editing or review tasks for each article – often with relatively fast turn-around times needed to meet the publishing schedule.
Check list items for each article mainly include:
- Proofreading for typographical and grammatical mistakes.
- Re-writing awkward statements or reverting copy back to author for clarification when necessary.
- Checking article formatting, URL links, and other needs for web articles.
- Checking or inserting images with appropriate ALT text and/or captions.
- Other SEO-related formatting or editorial needs depending on the article.
aBlogtoWatch articles range in size from as low as about 300 words to more than 3,000 words. Though most articles are between about 500 – 1,500 words in length. The right Copy & Format Editor will have experience working with high-output digital magazines as well as have a mastery of the English language along with excellent communication and organizational skills. A background in technical writing or at least a strong interest in timepieces will help given that it is the topic matter of aBlogtoWatch content.
The Copy & Format Editor will report directly to the managing team as well as the full-time and contributing writing staff. Being self-organized and adaptable, as well as being interested in the bigger picture goals of the team are important. This is an ideal job for someone who likes to focus for a few hours a day on editing tasks and can then use the rest of their time for other obligations or work. The right candidate will be interested in maintaining the position for the long-term and also possibly growing their area of responsibilities at the company.
