Job Summary:

As a full-time Health Reporter/Writer for NBC News Health and Medical Unit, you will work directly with Senior Health Editor, NBC News.com, broadcast producers and senior producers to pitch and write health news content for NBC News.com and TODAY.com

Job Duties:
  • Create authoritative, engaging original digital health content
  • Report and write breaking news stories, enterprise stories, features and multi-part series that can be produced across all NBC News platforms
  • Coordinate with broadcast producers to develop features for a digital audience that are additive and differentiating
  • Work with leading institutions and medical centers to spot and report exclusive and high-impact stories for digital and broadcast


  • Basic Qualifications:

    • Must have at least 5 years relevant experience in health and medical writing/editing
    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree
    • Must have a mastery of AP style
    • Must be willing to work early morning hours and occasional evenings when news breaks

    • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news. Must be able to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice, if needed
    • Must have strong writing skills, research skills, and editorial judgment

    • Deep network of contacts in medical organizations and institutions, federal agencies and the medical /science world
    • Broad knowledge of progress in various medical arenas including clinical medicine and healthcare policy.

    • Skilled at using social media to spot trending topics in health and medical field
