We are seeking a B2B / technology publicist who can bring their passion and interest in technology to DockYard. This role is a blend of publicity / PR / public relations, and marketing. Ideal candidates should have a background in technology or business publicity, with an interest in or experience in marketing.   

 

As a top tier software and web app developer with remote employees throughout the US, DockYard employs exceptionally talented teams of digital product designers, engineers, and project managers to work on groundbreaking projects for some of the world’s most innovative organizations such as Netflix, Apple, Flywheel, Nasdaq, Zipcar, McGraw-Hill, Harvard, and WNYC.

What you’ll do:

  • Promote DockYard in the business and technology space through getting our message and stories covered in third party media, magazines, newspapers, blogs, podcasts, etc.

  • To help drive organic search, continuously work to obtain backlinks from third party sites to DockYard.com, and ensure that appropriate keywords are included in copy provided to the media

  • Manage DockYard’s monthly e-newsletter as well as all social media marketing, which mostly consists of sharing blog posts and presentations written by others at DockYard

  • Grow our number of e-newsletter and social followers

  • Identify and submit proposals for DockYard thought leaders to present at conferences and speak to the media

  • Coordinate DockYard’s involvement in conference and event sponsorships and speaking in terms of managing payments, providing logos and copy to conferences, and ensuring that we get the most out of tables through getting banners and swag produced and delivered to conferences in advance

  • Grow a list of external media contacts.  Identify and develop relationships with external thought leaders who can help promote DockYard

  • Identify sponsorship and advertising opportunities with third party entities

  • Locate and submit DockYard to awards

  • Help develop messaging and stories about DockYard that are likely to resonate with target audiences and get picked up by the media

  • Help locate and submit DockYard to lists that compare companies

  • Help coordinate various raffles and contests DockYard holds

  • Work with our Content Marketing Analyst to contribute to our editorial and content calendar

  • Ensure all publicity aligns with DockYard’s brand attributes and high-level marketing strategy

  • Identify compelling imagery to associate with content that is shared with the media, including conceptualizing visually interesting ways to present data and craft infographics

  • Help identify ways to market DockYard through new channels as well discover other creative communication opportunities.  Help explore and research other miscellaneous ideas for attracting qualified leads

  • Help with content marketing by writing and editing press releases,  thought leadership, blog posts, case studies, etc.

  • From time to time, help manage other marketing channels such as paid search and display / banner advertising

  • Develop strong relationships with other DockYarders with whom you’ll collaborate

  • Conduct ad hoc research on industry trends, competitors, and other topics.  Continuously learn about software and web app design and development, coding and various technologies.  Learn and understand our clients’ unique needs and purchase motivators so media can attract leads that deliver sales.  Stay abreast of trends in PR, digital marketing, organic search, and social media

  • Assist with various other administrative tasks

  • Help attract interest in career opportunities

What we’re looking for:

  • 4-8 years of publicity experience including a track record of obtaining media placements in top tier, national publications

  • Ideally someone who brings a substantial list of media contacts and who already has relationships with a fair amount of publications

  • Basic understanding of common publicity and marketing concepts and tactics

  • Proficiency in and love of email and social media marketing.  Experience with Twitter, LinkedIn, Slideshare, and other top social channels

  • Uncanny knack for growing social audiences

  • Editorial mindset and understanding of what resonates with target audiences and with the media

  • Outstanding abilities in writing succinct, easy to skim copy

  • Excellent English language grammar and proofreading skills

  • Ability to quickly grasp rapidly evolving trends in technology and business

  • Ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously

  • Strong oral communication skills

  • Integrity and strong work ethic

  • Comfortable in a 100% remote (work from home) environment

Nice to haves:

  • Strong preference for candidates from a top PR / public relations firm or advertising agency with experience specifically in technology or business PR  

  • Experience in web design, web development, coding, software, technology or professional services preferred

  • Proficiency in tracking and measuring results, especially for social and email marketing

  • Flair for visual design, photography, and visual data presentation preferred

  • Bonus if you have paid search experience but not required
