Section I:  Scope

Design Assistant

The Manhattan College Marketing and Communication department is looking for a motivated and collaborative design assistant with one to two years of graphic design/marketing experience to join and support our creative team. The designer will assist the department in the production in a variety of projects, ranging from print-based publications and advertising to web design, digital newsletters and social media work. 


Section II:  Responsibilities

Reports to:  Assistant Director of Design


  •  Develops effective design solutions for internal and external audiences across various platforms (print, web, mobile)
  •  Visually interprets our brand strategy and mission
  •  Works with printers on publications and manages production schedules
  •  Serves as the art director and coordinator for photo shoots
  •  Administrative duties as needed for the department

Section III:  Qualifications


The ideal candidate is: 

  •  creative and shows initiative, a strong visual thinker with a strong design portfolio
  •  enthusiastic about design and typography
  •  experienced with digital photography and editing
  •  able to work independently and as a part of a team on a broad variety of priorities in a fast-paced environment 
  •  flexible to changes, requests and deadlines 
  •  detail-oriented and organized
  •  able to work closely and collaboratively with diverse groups of people
  •  has strong communication skills


  • B.A. in Graphic Design (preferred)
  • 1 to 2 years of experience 
  • Proficiency in Creative Suite programs (including but not limited to) InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator; Microsoft (PowerPoint, Word), and Keynote
  • Knowledge of illustration, animation, motion graphics, HTML, Final Cut Pro, photography and/or writing/editing skills are a plus
