This position is responsible for the development and implementation of organization-wide messaging, communications, public relations, advertising and social media efforts that contribute to the overall success of the full mission.
The Director works in close partnership with staff leaders in development, programs, and public policy and with a full range of volunteers.ResponsibilitiesEssential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Manage Chapter-wide media and public relations activities, including:Developing key messaging and ensuring brand integrity on behalf of the organization, as well as coordinating with nationwide media and public relations efforts;Ensuring staff and volunteers are prepared, equipped and empowered when appropriate to represent the Association with a clear mission narrative;Coordinating engagements and scripting of spokespersons of the organization within the community;Along with chapter leadership, represent the organization to the community, government and media to publicize its programs and needs;Seeking and developing opportunities to enhance the image of the organization within the community in response to advances in research/science and changes in government policy;Managing media buys to maximize exposure across channels;Managing media crisis response and communication; andWorking with media consultants to develop and implement a state-wide media strategy.Market and promote the organization's goals and objectives in order to advertise programming and services, as well as develop grass-roots support within the community, including:Planning and producing print and other advertising materials to support promotional efforts, publicity and marketing initiatives;Managing third-party vendors in support of material creation; andProviding speech writing support to the leaders and event managers of the Chapter, as well as presenters who participate in major events as needed.Oversee & manage the state’s social media accounts.Support the chapter/region communications teams through participation in group discussions and strategizing.Manage the communications and marketing team vendors, and volunteers.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in relevant field5 years of progressive, professional experience in marketing, communications and/or public relations5 years of experience working with web-based and social media communications5 years of management-level experienceExperience working with media outlets and in securing earned media preferredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAwareness and sensitivity to branding and key messaging within a mission-based organizationAbility to motivate and coach staff and partners though verbal and written communication to encourage others to maximize potential and achieve challenging organizational goalsStrong writing skills and knowledge of AP StyleStrong negotiation and media buying skillsKeen decision-making skills; ability to demonstrate effective cost/benefit analysis and develop process-oriented solutions to challengesApply creativity and imagination to develop and execute new messaging and new approaches to maximizing reach and visibility.Ability to remain goal- and outcome-focused while reflecting appreciation of the needs of diverse client populations and organization’s operational limitsDemonstrated management skills including the ability to set clear goals, organize projects, establish and manage budgets, develop work processes, and supervise others.Ability to innovate and implement changeUnderstanding, or the ability to quickly understand, the social, economic and political environment in which the Association operatesAbility and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the jobAbility to travel up to 20% within the assigned regionTitle:
