Overview
We are seeking an Associate Director of Investment Sourcing, who will work across asset classes on GEM’s Investment Team. The Associate Director will report to and work closely with GEM’s Director of Investment Sourcing, as well as other members of the Investment Team, to source and evaluate prospective investments for the GEM portfolio, and to lead research projects across investment themes.
We are seeking a candidate with prior experience in investing or originating deal flow, who is motivated by relationship building, winning deals on behalf of GEM’s clients, and a passion for investing. The ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated, organized, and possess the skillset to evaluate investments. Associate Directors have the latitude to work independently, to build networks and originate investment ideas on GEM’s behalf, and to elevate investment ideas to the advanced stages of our due diligence process.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- I nvestment origination
- Source new investment ideas through research, manager outreach, deal intermediaries, industry events, conferences, etc.
- Continuously manage a pipeline of investment ideas, maintaining relationships with prospective managers through intentional outreach
- Develop relationships with GEM’s existing network of investment firms, intermediaries, and peer investors
- Build discrete channels of deal flow
- Complete initial stages of diligence on prospective managers and deals; work closely with execution-oriented Investment Team colleagues to move deals through the pipeline
- Screen inbound investment opportunities
- Assess inbound investment ideas against GEM’s investment criteria
- Conduct screening calls and take meetings with prospective investment managers
- Relay GEM’s areas of interest to intermediaries, peer firms, and other referral sources
- Conduct Industry research
- Contribute to investment strategy by generating investment ideas
- Lead investment research projects in GEM’s identified areas of interest; present findings to investment team and / or investment committee
- Stay abreast of market trends and communicate market intelligence related to valuations, terms, and other conditions to the Investment Team as appropriate
- Oversee CRM data integrity
- Liaise with internal teams to support ongoing firm needs and ad hoc client data requests
Qualifications
Successful candidates will display traits inherent in GEM’s collegial and team-oriented culture, including enthusiasm, honesty, humility, integrity, and curiosity.
- Undergraduate degree with strong academic performance
- 6 – 9 years of relevant experience working in private equity, venture capital, corporate development, or institutional investing, with a track record of successful performance
- CFA preferred, but not required

- Effectively collaborate with colleagues—the Associate Director will often work on projects with other members of the Investment Team and will liaise with GEM’s Client Group and Investment Services teams.

Working Conditions
- Position type – Full-time
- Work location – After initial onboarding period, Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) subject to manager discretion

- Essential physical requirements – Ability to sit and work on a computer for an extended period
- Travel requirements - Able to travel as often as 2-4 times / month
