Course Title: Data Communication in Biotechnology (Capstone)
This capstone course provides students with the skills and tools needed to effectively communicate scientific and business-related data to diverse audiences. Emphasis is placed on storytelling with data, visualizations, scientific writing, executive summaries, and presentation skills. Students will synthesize knowledge gained throughout the program to produce and present a comprehensive data communication project. The course prepares students for real-world biotech communication scenarios including investor briefings, regulatory submissions, and internal team reports.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have Subject Matter Qualifications in the following areas.
Required:
- Current employment or recent experience in the biotechnology, pharma, or data science sector
- Ph.D., M.B.A. or M.S.
- Experience presenting scientific or technical data to internal or external stakeholders
- Expertise in communication strategies and data visualization techniques
Preferred:
- Prior experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring scientific professionals
- Familiarity with online learning platforms and digital presentation tools
General Responsibilities
- Guide students through a structured capstone communication project
- Deliver feedback that strengthens students’ storytelling, structure, and visuals
- Lead group workshops and encourage collaboration and professional growth
- Maintain the course site and facilitate timely student engagement
- Mentor students through development of capstone communication projects tailored to industry or academic audiences.
- Facilitate peer review and iterative feedback to refine writing, visuals, and delivery techniques.
General Skill Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and mentoring capabilities
- Ability to teach storytelling with data and translate technical content for both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.
About the Master of Science in Applied Biotechnology & Enterprise
This program prepares students to innovate and lead in the fast-paced biotech industry, integrating scientific knowledge with business strategy. Students learn through project-based, real-world applications.
All GPS courses are 8-weeks long and taught asynchronously online.
About GPS Faculty
GPS Faculty are active industry professionals who teach part-time, online. Our instructors hold at least a master's degree, and many have terminal degrees and professional certifications. Previous teaching experience is not required; GPS provides full training.
