Johannes Leonardo Nabs Bacardi

New York-based Johannes Leonardo, which has served as a creative agency for Google, has now added Bacardi to its client roster. We’ve been told by spies that staffers at the agency were “screaming and crying” (and maybe rum and coke imbibing) after receiving the news today that the agency was tapped to handle global advertising for the brand’s flagship rum. Here’s a brief, official comment from the Bacardi rum brand team that confirms things:

“Our pitch process to find the global and U.S. lead advertising AOR for BACARDI rum has finished and we are extremely excited and proud to appoint Johannes Leonardo.”

The account for Bacardi’s flagship rum brand had previously been handled for six years by Y&R, which was put on alert at the beginning of April as the booze operation started talking with U.S.-based agencies to potentially take over as AOR.
