‘Shocked and Offended’ Alabama Agency Reacts to ‘Onion’ Piece

As we sit in office awaiting the wrath of Nemo on this slow news day, why not blurb about this fun little back-and-forth between The Onion and Mobile, Alabama-based Red Square Agency (no strangers to taking the piss themselves), the latter of which has responded to a piece that the satirical trade published earlier this week. As you can see in the clip above, it appears that it’s high-time for the U.S. to cut ties with Alabama, according to PR firm, Hill & Knowlton, and not surprisingly, Red Square has taken issue. Well, in a sense. Here’s an excerpt from Red Square’s retort, which can be read in full here:

“While the fake video highlighted various made-up public opinion polls about Alabama, this and the contention that it should split from the United States is not what offended the Mobile, Ala.-based ad agency. “We were just surprised to see a decades-old joke on the front page of The Onion.” At press time, the video has been liked 502 times on Facebook and shared 280 times on Twitter. Red Square Agency cited this as proof that the nation was in agreement that the world-renowned satirical newspaper was capable of better…”

We’re ready to wager that an immediate reply from The Onion is not in the cards.
