What Part of MillerSpeak Is Unclear? The BBC has it that Judy Miller has apologized to her readers for her bad WMD reporting: "Judith Miller, the US journalist at the heart of the CIA leak probe, has apologised to her readers because her stories about WMD and Iraq turned out to be wrong. "The US journalist, who spent 85 days in prison over the summer before agreeing to give evidence to a grand jury investigating the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame, made the apology during an exclusive interview for BBC Newsnight." The quote in question from Miller: "I am obviously deeply chagrined that I ever write anything that turns out to be incorrect. I'm deeply sorry that the stories were wrong." However a closer reading through the Wizard of Oz-like lens that is MillerSpeak shows that's not really an apology in her world. She's not apologizing to the readers on her behalf--she's saying that she's sorry her sources were wrong. Judy Miller is never wrong. And never sorry. Duh. Email This Post |
