Adam Lambert Still Adjusting to Life as a ‘Gay Celebrity’

The latest cover story in The Advocate is an interview with American Idol‘s most memorable runner-up, Adam Lambert. All about the nature of his post-Simon celebrity as he puts the finishing touches on a second album.

The good news is that Lambert continues to become more comfortable with the media spotlight and says that being in a healthy personal relationship (which he currently is) helps a great deal. The not-so-good news is that many outlets still want to harp on his sexuality:

“It’s been the weirdest battle with identifying as a gay man in mainstream culture,” he says. “I think The Advocate is an exception—I think a respected gay publication treats it differently–but in regular journalism they make such a big deal out of homosexuality!…”

“I feel like this is a conversation [Advocate] readers will understand where I’m coming from, because it’s tricky–I don’t know what the f*ck I’m doing sometimes. Seriously. No one teaches you how to be a gay celebrity.”

Lambert’s candid interview comes out the same week as Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto‘s blog share about his own sexuality. Maybe Lambert can give Quinto a couple of quick pointers about what lies ahead from a media perspective.
