Facebook Timeline for Pages Tips

facebooklogo.jpgBy tomorrow, Facebook Pages will automatically convert to Facebook Timeline–so publishers, agencies and other organizations should take some time today to clean up their new pages.

Facebook Timeline for Pages Editing Tips

1. There should be a message at the top of your Facebook Page that reads: “On March 30, 2012, all Facebook Pages will get a new design. Preview your page now to see what it looks like and try out the new features.” Click the “Preview” button. This will not make a permanent change, yet.

2. Choose a cover image. Facebook will add this cover image to the top of your timeline as a big picture. Choose this photo wisely–it is the first thing readers will see. If you need some images, check out our Free Book Blog Image Resources post to find great photos.

3. Arrange the top of your page. This is very important, the first part of the page your readers will see. Here is more from Facebook: “Photos, likes and apps are now at the top of your Page. Photos show in the first spot, but you can change the order of everything else so people see what matters most. You can show a maximum number of 12 apps, so make sure to put your most important ones first.”

4. Your timeline will include a sprawling mix of all your old posts, embarrassing, dull or important. Read through them and pick the most important posts.

5. Now edit your timeline. Simply click on a particular story to start editing dates and locations or delete or hide particular posts (see the edit icons in the image below). Here’s more from Facebook: “Hover over a story and click the star icon to expand it to widescreen. Or click the pencil icon to hide or delete the post.”

6. Add milestones for your company, agency or literary organization. You can add any important date with this feature, even if it occurred before the invention of Facebook…
