Middle School Music (Percussion) Long-Term Substitute

The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Middle School Teacher of Percussion to work with our existing Music Department.This is a long-term sub position within the Music department reporting to the Head of Middle School.

Major Responsibilities:

• Teach, lead, and conduct small and large ensembles in rehearsals and performances.
• Arrange and program appropriate repertoire for ensembles.
• Lead percussion sectionals and before-school rehearsals as needed in all divisions.
• Maintain a school-wide inventory of percussion instruments and accessories.
• Work collaboratively with other music department colleagues to develop performance opportunities and curriculum.
• Provide positive, frequent communication with colleagues, administration and families
• Attend and perform at school related functions

Qualifications:

• A minimum of BM, BME or comparable credential in music education and/or performance.
• Previous teaching experience of students in grades Prek-12
• Previous experience in leading or performing with a handbell ensemble and percussion ensemble
• Ability to play all percussion instruments in musical styles common to jazz band, orchestra and concert band as well as in global, hand drumming traditions.
• Experience using music production and notation software, such as Sibelius and Garage Band.
• Piano skills preferred
• Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, humor, and commitment to positive growth
• A willingness to employ differentiated instruction to meet learners at their level of need
