Middle School Music (Percussion) Long-Term Substitute
The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Middle School Teacher of Percussion to work with our existing Music Department.This is a long-term sub position within the Music department reporting to the Head of Middle School.
Major Responsibilities:
- Teach, lead, and conduct small and large ensembles in rehearsals and performances.
- Arrange and program appropriate repertoire for ensembles.
- Lead percussion sectionals and before-school rehearsals as needed in all divisions.
- Maintain a school-wide inventory of percussion instruments and accessories.
- Work collaboratively with other music department colleagues to develop performance opportunities and curriculum.
- Provide positive, frequent communication with colleagues, administration and families
- Attend and perform at school related functions
Qualifications:
- A minimum of BM, BME or comparable credential in music education and/or performance.
- Previous teaching experience of students in grades Prek-12
- Previous experience in leading or performing with a handbell ensemble and percussion ensemble
- Ability to play all percussion instruments in musical styles common to jazz band, orchestra and concert band as well as in global, hand drumming traditions.
- Experience using music production and notation software, such as Sibelius and Garage Band.
- Piano skills preferred
- Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, humor, and commitment to positive growth
- A willingness to employ differentiated instruction to meet learners at their level of need
