Online Services Librarian

The Online Services Librarian oversees the library’s digital presence, including the website, research guides, tutorials, videos, FAQs, and virtual reference services, with a focus on providing a high-quality user experience for students.

They provide high-quality, student-centered library instruction and reference services both in-person and virtually, including on-call reference hours, teaching information literacy classes across all campuses, high schools, and online, and participating as an embedded librarian in assigned courses.

The librarian collaborates with the PASCAL consortium, SCC’s IT department, and external vendors to coordinate the administration of the library’s technology platforms and electronic resources.

The role also involves promoting and supporting Open Educational Resources (OER) and affordable learning materials, assisting faculty in finding, evaluating, adopting, and creating OER/AL materials to enhance course success and persistence.

Additionally, the librarian represents the library and SCC on various committees and boards, participates in relevant meetings, and pursues professional development opportunities.

General library duties and other responsibilities as assigned are also part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited university.
  • Related work experience.
  • Ability to learn and work with library technology platforms such as Libguides, LibAnswers/Chat, Libwizard, ExLibris Alma/Primo.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards.
  • Experience teaching library instruction classes and providing reference services in an academic library.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Occasional travel to SCC campuses and off-site locations for teaching or coverage.
  • Physical ability to move around the library, assist patrons, and handle materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
