The Online Services Librarian oversees the library’s digital presence. This includes the library’s website/research guides, tutorials, videos, and virtual reference prioritizing student success with a focus on a high-quality student user experience. In addition, they work with the PASCAL consortium, SCC’s IT, and external vendors to coordinate the library services platforms and electronic resources. They also provide high-quality, student-centered library instruction and reference services, as well as OER support.
Creates and maintains the library’s online presence, including the library’s website/research guides, tutorials, videos, FAQs and virtual reference, prioritizes a high-quality user experience.
Provides quality Reference & Instruction services in-person and virtually, including regular on-call reference hours, teaching library and information literacy instruction classes at all campuses, high schools and online, and participates as an embedded librarian in assigned courses.
Works with the PASCAL consortium, SCC’s IT and external vendors to coordinate the administration of the library’s technology platforms and electronic resources.
OER promotion & support. Promotes the use of OER or affordable learning (AL) materials. Supports SCC faculty in finding, evaluating, adopting and creating OER/AL materials that remove student barriers to course success and persistence.
Represents the Library and SCC by serving on internal and external committees and boards as assigned and elected. Participates in relevant library meetings. Pursues relevant continuing professional development.
General library duties and other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an America Library Association (ALA) accredited university and related work experience.
Demonstrates ability to learn library technology platforms. Experience with Libguides, LibAnswers/Chat, Libwizard, ExLibris Alma/Primo. Knowledge of accessibility standards. Experience teaching library instruction classes and providing reference services in an academic library.
Ability to work afternoons/nights/weekends as needed for coverage. Occasional travel to SCC's campuses and off-site locations to teach classes or cover the library is required. Requires the ability to frequently move around the library, assisting patrons. Other physical demands include moving book carts, compact shelving (manual), and moving books and materials weighing up to 25 lbs. from shelving from ½ ft. to 6 ft. high and transporting them around the library.
