Support student success through direct student assistance, instruction, outreach, the development of educational materials, and promotion and support of OER.

Provides quality Reference & Instruction services. Includes regular on-call references hours, in-person or virtual (chat/text/email) assistance, teaches library and information literacy instruction classes in-person at multiple-locations, including high schools, and online, and participates as an embedded librarian in assigned courses.

Supports student learning through creation of educational materials in multiple formats (print, videos, tutorials, interactive web elements such as H5P, etc.). Also assists with data collection and assessment of library impact on student success.

Outreaches and promotes of library services, especially focused on reducing barriers and library anxiety to increase student success and retention. Includes programming and workshops, but also participates in class visits, library tours, SCC events, and collaborations with student groups and partners outside the library.

Promotes and supports OER. Promotes the use of OER or affordable learning (AL) materials. Supports SCC faculty in finding, evaluating, adopting and creating OER/AL materials that remove student barriers to course success and persistence.

Represents the Library and SCC by service on internal and external committees and boards as assigned and elected. Pursues continuing professional development such as workshops, webinars, conferences, discipline-based literature, etc.


Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an America Library Association (ALA) accredited university and relevant work experience.

Experience teaching library instruction classes and providing reference services in an academic library, use of technology to create learning objects (tutorials, libguides, etc.), and strong commitment to student success, customer service, and collaborating as part of a team.
Ability to work afternoon/nights/weekends as needed for coverage. Occasional travel to SCC's campuses and instructional sites. Requires the ability to frequently move around the library assisting patrons. Other physical demands include moving book carts, compact shelving (manual), and moving books and materials weighing up to 25 lbs. from shelving from ½ ft. to 6 ft. high and transporting them around the library.
