Scholarly Publishing Assistant (Part-Time)

The Scholarly Publishing Assistant plays a key role in assisting the Scholarly Publishing Manager in managing the day-to-day operations of ScholarsArchive, Brigham Young University's institutional repository for faculty and student research. This position manages assigned projects, ensures efficient publication workflows, helps to train student employees in routine library publishing projects for the ScholarsArchive platform, and serves as the frontline customer service representative of the Scholarly Publishing unit.

What you will be doing in this position:

  1. Scholarly Publishing Project Management - Manage projects as assigned by the Scholarly Publishing Manager, such as processing electronic theses and dissertations, assisting with ongoing student employee projects, and uploading issues of academic journals - Assist with the training and mentoring of Scholarly Publishing student employees
  2. Scholarly Publishing Customer Service - Serve as a point of contact for inquiries about the Scholarly Publishing program and addressing ScholarsArchive requests from faculty, staff, and students
  3. Scholarly Publishing Manager Assistance - Schedule meetings for the Scholarly Publishing Manager, compile monthly reports, and help with additional tasks
  4. Citizenship and Professional Development - Model professional and collegial behavior including participation in meetings, committees, and task forces assignments as invited - Engage in appropriate professional development activities to stay current in the field

What qualifies you for this role:

Minimum education/experience Required: High school diploma with a minimum one year of experience working in a library OR one year of supervisory experience Preferred: Bachelor's degree with one year of experience in publishing, library services, customer service, or project management and one year of supervisory experience

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications: Required: Ability to follow established procedures and to perform work requiring meticulous attention to detail. Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete projects in a timely and efficient manner. Demonstrated ability to learn new software applications. Demonstrated ability in making independent and logical decisions Preferred: Experience with library systems such as Digital Commons or with web content management systems. Experience in using Adobe Acrobat, MS Excel, and digitization software. Experience in managing timebound projects. Experience supervising or training young adults

Pay Grade: 48 Typical Starting Pay: $20.00-$25.75 If the job has a post-end date, the last day to apply is the day before. If the job doesn't have a post-end date, the job could close at any time on any day
