Responsibilities

The Teaching Artist & Program Administrator will work closely with the Arts & Health Program Coordinator to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of community-based arts programming primarily for older adults. This position plays a key role in facilitating workshops, providing administrative support, and maintaining strong relationships with community partners. The primary focus will be on the Lifelong Arts Program, a workshop series designed for adults aged 55 and older, which fosters creative engagement and social connection through the arts. In addition, this role may support other Arts & Health and Accessibility initiatives, including but not limited to Robot Tours, Wellness Programs, and Accessibility Tours.

  • Plan and facilitate original workshops as a teaching artist for older adult participants.
  • Conduct research and contribute to the development of workshop content.
  • Assist with logistical setup and breakdown of program spaces, including arranging furniture, setting up basic A/V equipment, and preparing refreshments.
  • Maintain and nurture collaborative relationships with community partners and organizations.
  • Provide on-site and off-site support for programs, ensuring smooth coordination between teaching artists and partner organizations.
  • Assist the Arts & Health Program Coordinator with administrative tasks, including communication with community partners, participants, and teaching artists.
  • Coordinate logistics and communication among partner sites, artists, and participants.
  • Provide occasional support for other Arts & Health initiatives such as Robot Tours, Wellness Programs, and Accessibility Tours. This may include leading museum tours, assisting groups through museum spaces, facilitating artmaking activities, etc.
  • Represent The Ringling Museum with professionalism and a welcoming demeanor.

As Needed

  • Participate in public speaking engagements at program receptions and community events.
  • Procure and transport materials and refreshments from off-site vendors.
  • Attend professional development and training sessions.
  • Participate in weekly Education Department meetings.
  • Provide additional support to the Arts & Health Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

Skills

A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire and access to reliable transportation.

Teaching artists will spend at least 40% of their time offsite of The Ringling Museum.

Physical

  • Stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ascend/descend stairs.
  • Ability to bend/twist.
  • Ability to carry up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an art or education related field
    • Or a combination of post high school education and relevant experience equal to four years.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts or Museum Education, Education, Studio Arts, or a related field; or a combination of post high school education and relevant experience equal to four years.
  • Excellent time management skills with a high level of professionalism
  • Experience with:
    • Facilitating and leading educational workshops or classes
    • Active artistic practice in one or more of the following disciplines:
      • Visual Arts
      • Performing Arts
      • Writing/Storytelling
    • Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently and in a team setting
    • Creatively problem solve and take initiative with a solution-oriented approach
    • Create a welcoming learning environment
    • Effectively communicate across various platforms, including email, phone, video conferencing, and in-person
    • Maintain clear, consistent communication with team members and external stakeholders

Anticipated Salary Range

$15 - $22 per hour (28 hours a week) based on the education, skills, and experience of the selected candidate.

  • This position is funded through the generous support of E.A. Michelson Philanthropy and is currently offered as a one-year appointment, with potential for renewal based on program needs and funding availability.

Working Hours

The working hours are determined by the Lifelong Arts Program at The Ringling and may include mornings, evenings, and weekends based on the needs of the organization. Please note that any programs would be scheduled at minimum one month in advance.
