There are two types of student employment at SMC: Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Regular Student Employment (RSE). All students should apply for any position they are interested in, whether or not they have received a Federal Work-Study award. The SMC Financial Aid Office will determine if the student hired is eligible for FWS, but being eligible is not a requirement for most jobs. Receiving a FWS award does not guarantee employment, nor is the award amount paid towards tuition or account balances. It is a maximum earning limit for the academic year, contingent on securing a qualified student employment position. Both FWS and RSE employees earn at least the current minimum wage and are paid bi-weekly. Earnings may be used to support various student expenses. If a FWS student reaches their maximum award, the department may consider transitioning the employment to RSE, depending on funding. To be eligible, students must be registered, have a complete financial aid file, and complete an online Student Employment Application.

Position Summary

The student Choral Assistant/Librarian will assist with the daily operations of the choir library and performing arts area.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Ability to work independently
• Good organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous clerical/organizational experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Receive and log new music
• Maintain and track borrowed music from external sources
• Prepare materials for the semester (75-100 singers)
• Create and manage a digital directory/database
• Handle returned music
• Maintain the choir room's organization and cleanliness
• Make copies of handouts, schedules, and music
• Assist with concert setup
• Take attendance at rehearsals and performances
• Additional duties may be assigned as needed

Special Instructions to Applicants

You must be enrolled at SMC either full-time or part-time (minimum 6 credits fall/spring, 3 summer). Contact hours do not count towards credit minimum. High school dual-enrolled students and students enrolled at a partner four-year college on SMC campus meeting credit requirements are eligible. All students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions, with or without accommodation. The position involves light work, exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally.

Visual acuity must include color, depth, and field perception. The role is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
