Overview
Position: Court Reporter - Court Reporting And Transcription (CRS08) – Williamsburg, Virginia. Job Type: Full-time.
ProSidian is a management and operations consulting firm delivering value through risk management, compliance, business processes, IT effectiveness, energy and sustainability, and talent management. We support DoD/Military sector engagements and provide court reporting and transcription services for a range of clients including private companies, Fortune 1000 enterprises, and government agencies.
Responsibilities
- Perform work during regular business hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday.
- Have flexibility to work outside those hours, including weekends and holidays, when testimony requires; may require coming in early or staying late.
- Participate in a separate practice technology session with Agency and designated parties to test equipment prior to the date of required services.
- Provide verbatim transcription services of testimony for proceedings such as fact-findings, review boards, hearings, administrative investigations, Inspector General investigations, depositions, arbitrations, and other similar legal or Inspector General proceedings requiring a transcribed record.
- The testimony may be given face to face or remotely via video teleconference, by telephone, or via electronic platforms such as Teams or Zoom for Government, and other remote means allowed by the Agency and the trier or tribunal of fact.
- Handle complex litigations and legal proceedings with discretion, confidentiality, and urgency.
- Real-time transcription of depositions and arbitrations.
- Help deliver world-class professional service related to legal transcription and court reporting services.
- Collaborate with team members, client contracting officer representatives, engagement team members, and firm management.
- Test our virtual litigation platform in real-world settings and provide feedback to enhance the platform from the perspective of a Court Reporter.
- Attend depositions and other proceedings, online or in person, that require written transcripts using our platform.
- Provide rough drafts of transcripts to counsel and parties upon request.
- Provide real-time service during live depositions, when requested.
- Stenographically record and produce an accurate verbatim record of all proceedings.
- Transcribe, proof, and prepare transcripts for distribution using the required court reporting tools and platforms.
- Maintain exhibits during depositions as needed using the required tools and platforms.
- Partner with scopists and proofreaders for transcript completion.
- Record verbatim proceedings of courts, legislative assemblies, committee meetings, and other proceedings using stenograph machines.
- Prepare accurate final transcripts per client requests and submit final ASCII transcripts via the online portal.
- Proofread transcripts for correct spelling of words.
- Ask speakers to clarify inaudible statements.
- Provide transcripts of proceedings upon request of judges, lawyers, or the public.
- Transcribe recorded proceedings in accordance with established formats.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of experience in court reporting; Certification as an NCRA Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) or equivalent (or state licensure) and provide credentials within one week upon request. Must report at speeds of 225 words per minute and translate takedown from steno to English.
- Working knowledge of legal and medical terminology, and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic mathematics.
- Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing court reporting and transcription activities; ability to use court reporting and transcription equipment; proficient with Microsoft Office; and ability to maintain confidentiality and professional standards per NCRA guidelines.
- Consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five years.
- Proficiency with computers and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related tools; ability to communicate via email and meet milestones/delivery schedules.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance; notary license; valid driver's license; willingness to undergo background checks; e-Verify compliance as applicable.
- Experience with AIB, MSPB, and arbitration processes is a plus.
Licensing Requirements
- Professional certification as a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) through the National Court Reporters Association or Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) through the NVRA, or equivalent.
- Certification by the Board of Court Reporting of the Judicial Council of Virginia, or other state equivalents; real-time certification through NCRA or other certifying body; notary license; and any other licensure as required.
- Security-related credentials as required by engagements; U.S. citizenship; and ability to obtain security clearances including potential Top Secret or Q level.
Travel
Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, events, site visits, or training within a 50-mile radius of Norfolk, Virginia, including the Hampton Roads area and Williamsburg/James City County. Travel is coordinated with the technical point of contact and approved in writing by the Contracting Officer in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations.
Location
Work shall be conducted within 50 miles of Norfolk, Virginia. The majority of proceedings will take place at the Agency's offices in Norfolk, with potential work at other Agency offices, on ships, or at other court/tribunal spaces. The Court Reporter must be flexible to provide services at various locations within the specified area.
