Join Our Team as a Studio Program Assistant (Part-Time, On-Call)

Do you enjoy supporting creative learning environments and working with diverse communities? The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is seeking a Studio Program Assistant to help deliver high-quality, hands-on art workshops to students, families, and community partners both onsite and throughout the Kansas City area.

Position Details:

Location: Kansas City, MO (On-site with occasional offsite travel)

Status: Part-Time, On-Call

Schedule: Varies by programming needs; availability on weekdays, weekends, and occasional evenings required

Pay Rate: $17.00/hour

Studio Programs play a key role in helping visitors of all ages and abilities experience the power of making art.

What You’ll Do

As a Studio Program Assistant, you’ll work closely with Teaching Artists and program staff to ensure smooth and supportive experiences for workshop participants. From classroom set-up to student support, your attention to detail and positive attitude will help foster an inspiring and inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with setup, cleanup, and material preparation for art workshops
  • Maintaining clean and organized studio and storage spaces
  • Providing friendly, age-appropriate support to students during workshops
  • Traveling to offsite program locations within the Kansas City area as needed
  • Communicating availability and schedule updates in a timely manner
  • Attending required trainings to stay informed on inclusive practices and safety protocols
  • Supporting museum staff in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all


What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with public audiences; familiarity with diverse learners preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliability, punctuality, and responsiveness
  • Comfort working with children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to take direction and work as part of a collaborative team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Teams a plus
