We are currently expanding our impact and seeking a skilled Grant Writer to help us secure vital funding aligned with our mission.
Position Summary
MusicBreeds is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Grant Writer with a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising—particularly within the education and youth development sectors. The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities, crafting compelling grant proposals, and managing the grant application process from start to finish. This role will directly support MusicBreeds’ expanding programming and sustainability efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify prospective public and private funding sources that align with MusicBreeds’ mission and programs
- Write clear, concise, and compelling proposals, LOIs, and grant applications for foundation, corporate, and government funding
- Maintain and update a grant calendar to track application deadlines, reporting requirements, and submission statuses
- Collaborate with program staff, leadership, and finance team to gather data and supporting documentation for grant proposals
- Prepare interim and final reports for awarded grants, ensuring compliance with funder guidelines
- Assist in developing boilerplate narratives and funding templates tailored to MusicBreeds’ education, arts, and workforce programs
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional grant writing experience with demonstrated success in securing funding
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations focused on youth development, education, or the arts
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal grant funding streams (DOE, DYCD, NYSED, etc.)
- Exceptional written communication, research, and editing skills
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt language for varied funder audiences
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and grant databases/funding platforms (e.g., Grants.gov, Foundation Directory)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Nonprofit Management, Education, or related field
- Familiarity with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) frameworks and community-based education programs
- Experience with impact storytelling, data visualization, and outcome measurement for grant reporting
- Previous work on multi-year, six-figure grant proposals
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate: $30–$40/hr (based on experience)
