Schedule

Full-time, benefit-eligible (40 hours per week). All staff work on a rotating schedule that typically includes one evening shift per week and weekend rotations.

  • Day shift: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Evening shift: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Weekend rotation: Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • During the school year, rotations include both Saturday and Sunday. During summer hours, rotations are limited to Saturdays only.

Essential Functions

  • Promote the library’s collection and services
  • Perform circulation activities
  • Provide service desk coverage
  • Provide materials to appropriate bins for transfer
  • Provides research assistance to customers
  • Utilize integrated library systems software
  • Assisting customers at several service points
  • Training and assisting customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
  • Collaborating with Librarians to deliver programming and outreach services
  • Assisting with volunteer management
  • Perform shelving and weeding duties

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of one year of customer service experience, including library or retail
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of integrated library systems software (IE, Polaris)
  • Bilingual

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of alpha-numeric sorting systems
  • Various library systems
  • Telephone etiquette

Computer Skills

Proficient in various computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite

Work Environment

Works in an office setting with moderate noise. Schedules will include some nights and weekends. Interaction with teens is common due to the branch location near East Mecklenburg High School.
