About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5-18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. We believe every child deserves a promise kept – and we work every day to make that promise real.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Graphic Designer (Volunteer) to support MAP’s visual storytelling and brand identity across multiple projects. From program materials and digital campaigns to social media graphics and fundraising collateral, you will play a key role in communicating our mission through design. This is a great opportunity for a creative designer who wants to use their skills for social impact and help shape the look and feel of a growing nonprofit.
Key Responsibilities
- Design graphics, illustrations, and layouts for web, social media, print, and presentations.
- Develop branding materials for MAP programs, campaigns, and special initiatives.
- Collaborate with communications and program teams to create visuals that support storytelling and outreach.
- Maintain visual consistency across all MAP platforms and projects.
- Prepare files for digital and print distribution.
- Contribute creative ideas to campaigns, events, and content strategies.
Requirements
- Proven experience in graphic design, with a portfolio showcasing relevant work.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or Canva/Figma.
- Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, color, typography, and layout.
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt designs to fit brand guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
- Passion for mission-driven design and supporting underserved communities.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing for nonprofits, education, or community organizations.
- Motion graphics or video editing skills (Adobe After Effects, Premiere, or similar).
- Illustration or custom artwork capabilities.
