Position Purpose

Directs use of Film and Media Studies assets, including facilities and equipment spaces and studio spaces. Responsible for computer station hardware & software installation and upgrades, local server maintenance and administration, and overseeing asset purchasing. Provides support in the development, implementation, and oversight of film and video projects for students and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Work with department faculty in preparation of courses, including media resources and software/hardware/equipment implementation and workshop support.
  • Assist with faculty and class TAs to produce final student public screenings.
  • Supervise Student Support: oversee student computing stations, provide workshops, and guide students in film and video production.
  • Supervise Department Technical Manager and Film & Media Studies Intern; assure active status of department facilities and schedule maintenance as needed.
  • Manage student computer stations and software installation and upgrades, including local Avid NEXIS server management.
  • Research and purchase equipment and software; stay current with rapidly changing audio-visual technologies while supporting established ones.
  • Archiving of student and faculty media projects and resources; collaborate with the Department Administrator on budgeting and asset purchases.
  • Serve as department liaison for requests to use facilities such as studio or computer labs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in film or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Management skills and ability to contribute to a healthy departmental culture.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with shooting and editing a variety of film and video projects.
  • Familiarity with digital video, 16mm film, animation, and digital imaging hardware and software.
  • Ability to keep up with rapidly changing audio-visual technologies and techniques.
  • Evening and weekend availability required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Fine Arts degree.
  • Three to five years of video production, filmmaking, computer, and internet experience, particularly in a collaborative environment with multiple colleagues.
  • Adobe/Apple/Avid/BlackMagic/Audio Engineer/Electronics Technician certifications.
