Sr. IT Communications Technician - Radio

The City of Fort Worth IT Solutions’ Wireless Services (Radio) Division seeks a Sr. RF Communications Technician. The department provides radio and installation services for upwards of 20 city departments and many external agencies. Wireless Services oversees a variety of projects, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of two-way radios, as well as maintaining communications for the Outdoor Warning System, conducting coverage testing, detecting interference, and other special assignments. The position reports to the Wireless Operations Manager.

Pay and Schedule

Pay Range: $30.80/hr - $38.50/hr ($64,059 – $80,074 annually)

Workdays & Hours: FLSA Nonexempt position. Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4 pm; and is required to participate in a 24/7, 365-day on-call rotation schedule (1 week), with 30-minute response times.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Electronics or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in repairing electronic equipment.
  • Radio FCC, APCO.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Candidate selected for hire must pass a CJIS background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive P25 simulcast trunked radio experience.
  • Anritsu Site Master and Line Sweep Certification.
  • Accountable public customer service experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and build strong customer relations with city departments and external agencies.
  • Schedule and oversee work performed by technicians and contractors, and track service calls.
  • Install, program, monitor, maintain, upgrade, and align communication and data equipment that will include handheld or mobile radios and accessories, and global positioning systems.
  • Maintain accountability of LMR equipment, shop stock, parts, and equipment needed for repairs and/or installations.
  • Diagnoses and repair problems with radio communication system equipment, radio transceivers, and/or peripheral system and equipment.
  • Create complex LMR code plugs for various radio manufacturers.
  • Perform as a lead technical expert on projects assigned to Wireless Services.
  • Participate in a 24/7, 365-day on-call rotation schedule, with 30-minute response times.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Working conditions depend on assignment and typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, and balancing. Physical demand is medium work; frequently lifting up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds depending on assignment.
