Job Description
The School of Art and Design is seeking a full-time faculty member in the Fashion Design Apparel Area. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned senior designer from the fashion industry with demonstrated leadership in design. Their professional experience should focus on areas that incorporate classic heritage skills, particularly within Sportswear, Special Occasion, Knitwear, Childrenswear or Menswear. The successful candidate must have a strong ability to drape, pattern, and sew intricately designed garments, and should be skilled in executing original designs with excellent design communication abilities in these classifications. A comprehensive understanding of current fashion practices, familiarity with a range of design methodologies, awareness of market trends, and experience with emerging technologies are essential.
This faculty member will participate in administrative responsibilities as required and will teach core AAS foundational courses focused on womenswear, as well as BFA specialization courses in one or more of the following areas: Sportswear, Special Occasion, Knitwear, Childrenswear or Menswear. They will also contribute to curriculum development in collaboration with departmental colleagues and participate in service to the Department, School, and College through committee work.
It is expected that the selected candidate will establish and/or build upon personal strengths by the time of tenure consideration. Strength areas may include, but are not limited to: research in sustainability or inclusive design; fashion show presentations or exhibitions; curriculum development; securing grants and proposals; cultivating industry partnerships; or producing scholarly or creative work relevant to fashion design and education.
Responsibilities
- Deliver innovative instruction in core AAS foundational courses focused on womenswear and BFA specialization courses in Sportswear, Special Occasion, Knitwear, Childrenswear, or Menswear.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues to develop and implement curriculum.
- Engage in service to the Department, School, and College through curriculum development and committee participation.
- Build and strengthen personal areas of strength relevant to tenure considerations (e.g., sustainability, exhibitions, industry partnerships, grants, or scholarly/creative work).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or related field(s).
- 6 years of relevant industry experience as a senior-level fashion designer.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years as a senior-level fashion designer.
- Prior teaching experience.
- Master's degree in Fashion Design or related field(s).
Salary and Benefits
The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience; CBA Salary Schedules apply. Salary ranges include Instructor: $69,346.37 - $80,793.82; Assistant Professor: $80,736.40 - $118,984.88; Associate Professor: $94,498.31 - $142,271.78; Professor: $115,232.32 - $173,403.37.
